UPTOWN WEEKEND GETAWAY

Ideal weekend getaway, excellent little vacation rental or both – you decide how to best enjoy this uptown nest 1.4 miles from the heart of downtown with lots to do along the way. Originally a detached 2-car garage circa 1920, the conversion to cottage was done a long time ago. Current owner has taken it to a whole new level for instant gratification. House is set back from the street with a short gravel drive lined with trees and plants making for an outdoor seating area along the west side.

Step inside and discover this sunlit urban retreat. It sounds small, but lives larger than you think. A Murphy bed comes out at night but stays tucked out of sight during the day. Big glass block windows provide an abundance of natural light and privacy. A beamed ceiling measures 9-10′ in height adding volume you to the space. Comfortable living room can hold a couch and a chair or two with a long wall for your flat screen. Double vintage doors open to a large bathroom with oversized closet behind mirrored doors. The kitchen can handle anything you need and does it in style. Bar top serves as seating and prep space and there’s lots of storage too. At the end of the day, the Murphy bed comes down for a good night’s sleep before the next day’s adventure rolls out to meet you.

Gabriel St is off San Marco Ave and a 1/2 mile north you’ll find the neighborhood wine/coffee bar serving great food, live music and other great events plus the most decadent dessert shop across the street. Head south along main street San Marco (on foot, by bike or car) and you’ll find a kiddie park with carousel, the library, a host of indie restaurants, shops (clothing boutiques, jewelry, art, furniture, collectibles, cupcakes, ice cream, flowers), a wine bar and a salon in case your hair is looking for attention. Just over a mile of neat things to do, see and eat and this is before you get downtown where another world of cool stuff is waiting to be discovered. Good things do come in small packages!
