SWEET DOWNTOWN COTTAGE

Brought back to life with a tender and total renovation in 2010, this downtown cottage is even sweeter than you think. There’s room for everything if you follow the “less is more” principal and that includes space for a garden in front where flowers and vegetables will enjoy full sun. A 20′ covered porch spans the house and it’s a great place to get to know to the neighbors as they pass by to and fro. Come on in and be delighted at the wide open living and kitchen space under 10′ ceilings.

Blond bamboo flooring is smooth and cool on bare feet and abundant natural light streams in through the new windows. In the living room the old chimney has been exposed and offers a bit of color and architectural interest to the room and there’s ample wall space to display your art collection. Both bedrooms are right off the living room so there’s no wasted space with hallways.

The master is the center bedroom and you can access the full bath via the small walk-in closet closed off with a pocket door for more space saving. A fully tiled bathroom has a tub/shower combination with glass doors and the double vanity has white vessel sinks atop a black cabinet with lots of storage. The wall tucks the commode out of sight without the need for a “closet.”

The kitchen, dining area and utility room run across the back of the house. Again, a wall keeps the prep areas, sink and stove out of view from the front door but the space is so open that you can cook and be part of the conversation at the same time. Tiled floors, tiled countertops, a great scaled down country sink and crisp white appliances, including dishwasher, microwave, smooth surface stove and fridge with freezer on the bottom and there’s still room for more than one cook to get things stirring.

A side door opens to an elevated 10′ x 8′ deck and it’s an easy fix to create a private green space on the north side. Continuing the existing fence to the edge of the house will make a nice side yard with lots of sun for growing more things, keeping Rover in check or just getting a daily dose of Vitamin D to keep you energized. A small concrete pad is already in place for patio seating and there’s enough room to create an off-street parking pad for one car even if you do build a garden fence. An easy stroll to King Street and the downtown doings and once the Riberia Street repaving is complete, you can bike straight down to the community pool and the Sunday Farmer’s Market. Sweet indeed!
