A SWEET TREEHOUSE

Perhaps a treehouse is best defined by trees and the live oak at the mouth of the pavered driveway that has presided over Blanco Street long before there was a street or a city here. Graceful, it provides a canopy of welcome shade when summer comes and you can enjoy its beauty from the 2nd floor deck. For a wee house, there is a lot of storage and space to store things in the carport you will need like kayaks, bicycles, perhaps a boat or pop-up camper or you can have a wicked paddle tennis tournament down here!

Originally the 2nd-story was a small house sitting at the front of the lot. The current owner built the masonry 1st floor and had the house set on top before completing the front and back decks, outside stairs and the huge (and tall) carport measuring 29’9 x 18’3 with 11′ of height. A covered storage area and a secure one are tucked under the exterior stairway.

The first floor has been used as a workshop in the past and has a concrete floor, water closet (easy to make full bath since the plumbing is all there), lots of windows and a wall unit for conditioned air. At the present time there is no interior stair to join to the upstairs but a spiral is easily installed and won’t get in the way. Upstairs there’s a wonderful deck (20′ x 10′) with an awning in case of a rain shower. So private thanks to the trees, you can enjoy al fresco dining all year round.

Living, dining and kitchen are all open to each other so conversation can continue as you cook. The front bedroom has direct access to a bathroom which also opens into the living area for your guests’ convenience. Black and white checkered tile countertops in the kitchen and white tile present a retro flavor and the small bar has room for a couple of stools. The back bedroom has a full bath across the hall and a 10-light frosted glass door gives this part of the house privacy from the front. A utility closet has a stack washer/dryer next to the bathroom.

Open the back door and there’s another terrific deck with awning overlooking the patio below. Oh, the patio – beautifully bricked and landscaped with low maintenance plants. A picnic table is waiting for your first party along with a rustic fire pit. An antique door on a track acts as a privacy screen as well as being lovely. You’ll find a delicate iron gate and curved wooden gate separating the spaces and your pup can frolic safely thanks to the fence. Important info: the ceilings are 7′ (great for energy efficiency). HVAC replaced in 2013. Sweet!
