THOMAS GLOVER WHITE: A LIFETIME OF ART & MUSIC

For fourteen years, St. Augustine artist and musician Thomas Glover White worked toward his vision of a building community Sculpture Garden. In 2009, the St. Augustine Beach City Commission set aside land for the permanent installation Thomas Glover White - Master sculptorof the St. Augustine Sculpture Garden and committed to the lighting and long-term maintenance of the monuments and grounds. Installation began in 2010, and the Sculpture Garden celebrated its “grand unveiling” in June, 2011. It was a remarkable gift to the community, an artistic treasure to be enjoyed by generations to come, and an amazing legacy to the life and work of Thomas Glover White.

This past February, Thomas was diagnosed with an inoperable Stage 4 glioblastoma brain tumor. Thomas Glover passed away on Friday evening, May 18th. A celebration of his life and work, titled “Thomas Glover White – A Lifetime of Art & Music,” will be held at Mardi Gras on Wednesday, June 20th. It will offer an opportunity for this community to gather in Thomas’ honor, enjoy the music he so loved, bid on works of art and music contributed by his many colleagues, and enjoy a variety of hors d’oeuvres and appetizers. We are asking local artists and musicians to contribute items be included in the auction. Items may include any type or art or craft work, CDs or other band merchandise, gallery gift certificates – there is really no limit to the art-related items that will be welcomed. $10 Suggested donation – all proceeds will assist in defraying Thomas’ medical bills and final expenses.  The event will be held on Wednesday, June 20th at Mardi Gras, 123 San Marco Avenue at 5pm.
