Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Today, Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.  Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner partner families.  In 2003, in collaboration with the Council on Aging and St. Johns County Housing and Community Services, we launched a unique elderly program. It is designed for elderly or disabled persons on very limited Social Security income who own their own homes but whose homes are not fit for habitation. After their home is demolished by the county, we build a new home on their property. We completed our first elderly home in 2003 and have now completed seven more, including an interim home for elderly qualifying for a home but needing a home while their new one is being built.  Contact 904.826.3252 or visit habitatstjohns.org.
